ECHO Director Says Marvel Studios ‘Protects the Best in Their Creatives’

There have been several reports regarding the Marvel Studios production. Echo series and the behind-the-scenes drama that was happening behind the scenes. Regardless of any problems faced by the production, the series has been completed and the five-episode series will be released in full next year.

During a recent interview with CB, director and executive producer Sydney Freeland spoke about his time working on the series with Marvel and said that the experience was “overwhelmingly positive” and that Marvel protects “the shit out of their creatives”. She said:

“Yes, I have to say that my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I have my producing partners behind me and our executive team, and it’s been difficult, absolutely, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. And look” I spoke about how crazy and fast-paced it can be, and there’s definitely some truth to that. But the one thing I can say is that they protect their creatives to the core. And I felt absolutely protected and empowered, which is rare for a project of this scope and size. I worked a lot in TV and did shows where they said, “No, every word has to be that. Every word has to be exactly.” … So no, an incredible amount of creative power.”

It’s great to know that Freeland had such a positive experience working on the show. It seems like maybe there were things going on behind the scenes, but members of the Marvel team defended her and the show’s vision.

The series centers on Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as he “struggles to reconnect with his Native American roots while balancing aspirations of a life of crime as the successor to Wilson Fisk’s brutal legacy (Vincenzo D’Onofrio) aka Kingpin. In the first episode we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles.”

Echo was developed by Ethan Cohen AND Emily Cohen, who are writers and executive producers of the show. The series is also the protagonist Charlie CoxZahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, Devery JacobsAND Graham Greene.

All five episodes will release on Disney+ and Hulu on April 9, 2024.
