Peacock has released a really fun trailer for their upcoming original holiday comedy Geniushero Melissa McCarthy. The film comes from the director Sam Boyd (In a relationship) with a script from Richard Curtis, based on his 1991 television screenplay “Bernard and the Genie.” Curtis has written and directed great films before Current love AND About the weatherand he also wrote Notting Hill AND Yesterday. These are some of my favorite movies!
The film is the protagonist Melissa McCarthy as Flora, the titular character, who comes to the aid of a despondent Bernard (Paapa Essiedu). Through their unexpected friendship, the two discover how the power of love can unleash special holiday magic.
The synopsis reads:
“From missing his daughter’s birthday, to abandoning his wife, to getting fired, Bernard needs a genie for several reasons. Luckily for him, he stumbles upon a jewelry box and unintentionally releases the genie Flora, who can grant unlimited wishes. Flora has been trapped in that box for over 2,000 years due to a misunderstanding with a sorcerer in 77 BC, so Bernard begins to show her the world she’s been missing. Meanwhile, declaring that he needs to convince his family to love him again, Bernard and Flora embark on a journey to achieve that very goal in time for Christmas.
The film is also the protagonist Alan Cumming, Denee Benton, Luis Guzman, Marco Marone, Jordyn McIntosh, Tate Ellington AND La Chanze. This looks like a really fun and heartwarming film that will be great for families to watch together this holiday season. Check out the trailer and poster of the film below and watch Genius when it hits Peacock on November 22nd.
