Disney CEO Bob Iger was “apoplectic” about Marvel’s visual effects problems; SHE-HULK VFX Issues Attributed to ‘Baseless Scripting’

New details have emerged about Marvel Studios She-Hulk: Lawyer series and its VFX problems. The report, which comes from Variety, suggests that Marvel Studios is the president Kevin Feige is responsible for the problems.

The report reveals that Disney CEO Bob Iger he was “apoplectic” over large and widespread visual effects problems when he returned to take charge of the company. A month after the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Victoria Alonso was fired. She oversaw the studio’s physical production, postproduction, visual effects and animation.

Sources suggest that Alonso was “scapegoated and point to She-Hulk’s visual effects problems as a symptom of a deeper rot, namely a lack of oversight over script development.” Another source involved with She-Hulk blamed “incomplete scripts” and Kevin Feige. The source said:

“The so-called bad visual effects we see were due to incomplete scripts. This is not Victoria. That’s Kevin. And also above Kevin. These issues should be addressed in the preproduction phase. The timeline doesn’t allow Marvel executives to sit with the material.

An example was shared: “In the original arc of She-Hulka flashback of the star Tatiana Maslany’s transformation into his Hulk persona didn’t happen until episode 8, the penultimate episode. But after Marvel’s mastermind looked at the footage, they realized that the scene needed to take place in the pilot episode so that audiences could see the character’s backstory early. This meant the VFX team was tasked with cleaning up the mess in post-production.”

It was also revealed that a single episode of She-Hulk It cost $25 million to produce, which is crazy! The report points out that the budget “is tiny compared to the budget of an episode of the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.”

The report goes on to reveal that many ending effects for shows like She-Hulk and WandaVision were added after their streaming debuts. This is why VFX artists worked hard to get their work done.

Marvel Studios has been an absolute disaster behind the scenes! Thankfully, Marvel is now making some changes that should help things run a little more smoothly for them as they move forward with the development of their projects. Hopefully it also improves the quality of the storytelling.
