THE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are getting a whole new fan base with the fun new movie that was recently released, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new retelling. The ’80s show and 1990 movie based on our favorite teenage mutants were what started the fandom and will live on in fans’ hearts forever, but TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastmann I just released some strange news about a project that might have happened, but we’re so glad it never happened.
In a recent interview with /Film, Eastman explained that in the 1980s, “Eastman recalled a proposal from none other than B-movie master Roger Corman in the 1980s for a low-budget film starring Donnie, Leo, Raph and Mikey. . The craziest part? What Corman had in mind to play the Turtles.”
“In the early days, [before] In the first Turtle movie, there was a presentation from Roger Corman’s company, New World Pictures, saying, I think there were a bunch of comedians like Sam Kinison and a couple [of] others who would be the voice of the turtles [and] they simply paint their faces green and wear a shell. But it was a really crazy, low-budget idea [co-creator] Peter [Laird] and I wasn’t impressed [laughs], so we said no. And wisely, I guess.”
So the idea was to have legendary comedian Sam Kinison, who was in his 30s at the time, as part of an ensemble that would also include other great comedians of the time like watermelon-smashing Gallagher, the star of “Police Academy” Bobcat Goldthwait and Billy Crystal, for The Ringer.
This is absolutely ridiculous! Why would a group of teenage ninjas play these comedians? Half of them are known for vulgarity and they are all too old, this makes no sense! I’m happy that the studio ended up making the movie they did, aimed at kids, because it’s still a fan favorite.
What do you think of this absurd lineup?
