Over the weekend we learned the sad news about that actor Matthew Perry he died at his home in Los Angeles. At just 54 years old, this news came as a shock to his family, friends and fans, and the reactions were one of general disbelief and devastation. It’s so hard when someone dies, but it’s a huge blow when it happens unexpectedly.
Perry was best known for his role on the fan-favorite series Friendswhich is still a streaming hit, and two years ago, the cast reunited for a wildly successful reunion on HBO, garnering tons of fans tuned in to watch the cast tell stories and reminisce about their experiences and enduring love for each other.
Now the co-stars reunite once again to express their grief over their loss. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc AND David Schwimmer he wrote in a statement to People on Monday:
“We are all so completely devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we will take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. Over time we will say more, as and when we can. For now, our thoughts and love are with Matty’s family, his friends and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Some of Perry’s scene partners on the show also paid tribute. Maggie Wheelerwho played Chandler’s girlfriend Janice in the first four seasons of Friends, took to Instagram to write: “What a loss. The world will miss you, Matthew Perry. The joy you brought to so many people in your too-short life will live on. I feel truly blessed by every creative moment we’ve shared.”
Paget Brewster, whose Friends The character Kathy dated Chandler in season 4, reached out to X to write, “So very sad to hear about Matthew Perry. He was lovely to me Friends and every time I saw it in the decades that followed. Please read his book. Helping was his legacy. But he won’t rest in peace…he’s already too busy making everyone up there laugh.”
