Scott McNairy (Argo), Julia Sweeney (pulp fiction) and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Jill Scott joined the cast Cowgirl’s Last Ridedirected by Academy Award winner Geena Davis.
Hanway Films is editing the film and will bring it to the upcoming AFM. The film is directed by Leena Yadav, her film debut Dehydrated, premiered and subsequently screened at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival. Her feature film of 2018 Rajma Chawalwhich screened in London was acquired by Netflix.
Cowgirl’s Last Ride is the latest production from Susan Cartsonis and Suzanne Farwell, the producers behind films such as What women want And The holiday. The pair will produce with their Resonate Entertainment partner Brent Emery, with whom they recently made the Amazon picture Sitting In Bars With Cake.
The film’s synopsis reads: We follow an unorthodox retired Texas cowgirl named Fay (Davis) who, after struggling with the negligent staff at her nursing home in Dallas, escapes in a pickup truck on a trip to her native East Texas , where her more conventional son Randall (McNairy) lives plans to sell her old house. Randall, frantic with worry, gives chase as his wife and children all worry about this family turmoil. Along the way, Fay begins to revisit the memories and people from her vivid past. an extraordinary meeting with his fellow outsider Cali (Scott), an impressive turning point. This journey of rediscovery leads her to reconnect with the woman she once was and reclaim her identity by trading the bakkie for a real horse.
