Walt Disney Distribution CEO Matt Kalavsky has been promoted to SVP and General Sales Manager

Disney distribution director Matt Kalavsky has been promoted to senior vice president and general sales manager, domestic theatrical distribution, for Disney Entertainment.

He succeeds Ken Caldwell, who is retiring at the end of this year.

Kalavsky will oversee domestic distribution, including the US and Canada, for all of the studio’s film labels, including Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures. Kalavsky’s oversight also includes the Cinema Partnerships team, non-cinema sales and Hollywood’s legendary El Capitan Theatre.

“I am absolutely thrilled that Matt is taking the domestic reins,” said Tony Chambers, Executive Vice President and Head of Theatrical Distribution. “For more than two decades, Matt has been both an outstanding leader and a valuable partner to Ken, the entire Disney team and the local exhibition community. “In addition, he was instrumental in helping Disney achieve some of the biggest box office successes of all time in the industry.”

Kalavsky said, “It is a great honor to lead this team of extremely dedicated and talented individuals who continue to do great work bringing Disney’s unparalleled film offerings to audiences across the country.”

Kalavsky most recently served as VP, Assistant General Sales Manager, Theatrical Distribution. During his time in the studio, he covered 20th Century Studios’ greatest hits Avatar: The Way of Water; the vivid reimaginings of Love and the Beast And The lion king; Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen And Zootopia; The one from Pixar coconut; Searchlight’s Pictures’ Oscar for Best Picture Nomad country; Marvel Studios record Avengers: Endgame; and that from Lucasfilm Star Wars: The Force Awakensthe highest grossing domestic release of all time, to name a few.

Kalavsky joined Disney in 1999 through the College Network Program at Buena Vista Pictures Distribution while attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After moving through various sales positions within the company in the Atlanta and New York offices, Kalavsky moved to the company’s Burbank headquarters in 2013, where he was named VP of Sales Strategy and Analytics. He has been VP and deputy general sales manager since 2019.
