It was recently announced that Disney will produce a live-action series based on the hit 1990s animated series Gargoyle. Fans have been waiting for this for a long time and it’s finally happening. But it looks like a big change is coming.
A brief summary of the plot of the live-action reboot series has been shared by Variety and one of the biggest things that has been changed is that Goliath will be the only Gargoyle in the show!? The synopsis reads:
“Based on the classic Disney animated series, Goliath is the last of a heroic race of gargoyle warriors who once lived among men. Free from a centuries-old curse that turned him to stone, Goliath struggles to solve the mystery of his past as he looks into modern New York with police detective Elisa Maza.”
I really hope this synopsis is incorrect because it would be ridiculous to develop a Gargoyles series without the rest of the crew, which includes Demona, Brooklyn, Lexington, Hudson, Broadway and the Bronx. If this is true, however, then the project is off to a bad start.
It would be a shame if this was the direction they were actually trying to take the series. Knowing Disney, though, that’s probably true. This latest update doesn’t inspire much confidence, but we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out. I was just really hoping they would get it right when it finally happened.
Garglyles is produced by James Wan and the screenplay was written by Gary Daubermann. It is based on the animated series created by Greg Weismann.
