The nightmare before Christmas will return to theaters this month to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been 30 years, especially since I so fondly remember going to the annual 14th anniversary screening at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood. That was the day I found out I was pregnant with my first child! This movie is so beloved and continues to captivate audiences, because the fans who loved it first are now showing it to our children.
October 20, director Henry Selick’s stop-motion animated classic will be re-released in theaters across the United States and Canada, 30 years after its release in October 1993. Disney also announced Monday that the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California, will show The nightmare before Christmas in 4D – a 3D presentation with in-theater effects – and hosts anniversary screenings with special concessions, souvenirs and more.
To commemorate the re-release, Disney commissioned new artwork inspired by the film, created by Shepard Fairey’s Studio Number On.
Check it out below and let us know if you’ll be heading to the cinema to see a screening!
