PET SEMATARY: BLOODLINES Director Interested in Exploring Stephen King’s Horror Story in More Sequels

Pet Seminar: Bloodlines is a prequel story set 40 years before the events of the 2019 film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Cemetery for pets. The story explores the history of the town of Ludlow and the character Jud Crandall. This is a fascinating story, and it was one that I was happy to see brought to life.

There is a lot of tradition in the Cemetery for pets history and Pet Seminar: Bloodlines director Lindsey Beer is interested in exploring that tradition further. During an interview with GamesRadar, he said:

“You could make so many movies in the Pet Sematary universe that peel back more and more of the onion and show more and more of what this evil really is and where it really comes from, but I certainly have many versions of a very extensive origin story in my head.”

He goes on to say that other films set in this horror universe “would be something I would be interested in exploring further. It was definitely a tightrope to balance because I didn’t want to give everything away. I also feel like if you explain too much, it almost becomes more confusing, but I was trying to explain enough that it would seem intriguing and satisfying in itself, but it would raise more questions.”

The upcoming prequel film will tackle Timmy Baterman’s tragic story because it hasn’t been adequately explored before.

Baterman is a secondary story within the main narrative of King’s novel, and was used to emphasize the dangers of the graveyard. During World War II, Timmy was killed in action. Grieving father, Bill Baterman, unable to cope with the loss of him, buried his son in Micmac Cemetery, which is the ancient cemetery with the power of resurrection. Timmy came back to life, but he was no longer the same. He began to behave strangely and violently, terrorizing the citizens. Stories about his behavior, including whispers about citizens’ secrets and acts of violence, spread throughout the city.

Several men from the town, including Jud Crandall, went to the Baterman house to confront Bill about his undead son. They found Bill in a state of denial, refusing to acknowledge that the thing in his house was no longer his child. Eventually, the Baterman house burned down under mysterious circumstances, with Bill and Timmy inside. Speaking about telling this story, Beer said:

“It’s a really interesting piece of lore, because the book basically implies that it was because Jud had this interaction with evil and Timmy early in his life that evil was now targeting him as an adult, but that’s not something that we will ever learn.” in the movie. So it feels like such an important missing piece in the mythology that I’m really happy that’s what they chose to focus on.

The story of the new film is set in 1969, and the young Jud Crandall who “dreams of leaving behind his hometown of Ludlow, Maine, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to face a dark history family member who will keep him forever tied to him. connected to Ludlow. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must battle an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding and, once discovered, has the power to destroy everything in its path.
