Bradley Whitford (The West Wing, Get Out, The Handmaid’s Tale) has joined the podcast series Mina and Lucy’s guide to killing Dracula, in which he will take on the role of Van Helsing. While he simply voices the character in the podcast, I could actually see him playing the character in a live-action version of Dracula.
The 20-episode serialized podcast comes from Gen-Z Media and was written by Lauren Wells (What we do in the shadows) and loosely based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel.
The podcast is described as a “spooky adventure comedy” story that “follows best friends and monster enthusiasts who discover something shocking about their new classmate, and when strange events begin to shake their small town, the friends they find themselves facing the most powerful vampire in legend, Dracula himself.
Whitford’s Professor Van Helsing is “Mina’s eccentric and protective grandfather, who guards her secret past as the greatest vampire hunter the world has ever known.”
Ben Strouse, The CEO of Gen-Z Media said in a statement: “Bradley’s portrayal of Van Helsing is heartfelt and hilarious. Lauren created a really fun take on the iconic character and it’s exciting to see Bradley bring it to life.”
It’s also in the cast Richie Coster (The dark Knight) as Broadway star Dracula Suri Marrero (The Lion King, Frozen) as Mina Murray and the newcomer Genna Du Quesnay like Lucy West, as well as Marissa Jaret Winokur (Hairspray), Julian Chowdhury (That 90s show), Antonio Atamanuik (30 Rock), AND What a Tafari (The good fight).
Strouse went on to say that the company is targeting “older teens who may have aged out of younger ‘kids'” podcasts, while also trying to attract a co-listener audience of young adults, parents and other adults who love the worlds of great stories. using original music and immersive sound design to bring [stories] to life in a way that is very familiar to viewers.”
