Disney has released a trailer for an upcoming special short film titled Once upon a time there was a studio, which celebrates the history of Disney Animation. This looks like it’s going to be a fun little movie!
The documentary features an all-star ensemble of beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios characters coming together “for a joyful, fun and emotional reunion as they gather for a spectacular group photo to celebrate Disney’s Centennial. Featuring 543 Disney characters from more than 85 feature films and shorts, Once upon a time there was a studio welcomes heroes and villains, princes and princesses, sidekicks and sorcerers, in all-new hand-drawn and CG animation, to celebrate 10 decades of storytelling, artistry and technological achievement.
I miss the old days of Disney animation, where the movies they made were all amazing! Movies made these days carry the Disney brand, but some of them lack the Disney magic, which is a shame. Those older classics are still some of the best animated films ever made.
This 10-minute short is part of the special Disney event coming this October on ABC called “The Wonderful World of Disney: Celebrating Disney’s 100th Anniversary!” The description introduces it like this: “Celebrate a century of stories with Once Upon A Studio, a new original short film, premiering on ABC.” When two new employees stay overnight at Walt Disney Animation Studios, they will see all the Disney characters from past and present come to life and they will all gather for their centennial photo taken. This comic short is specifically a celebration of Disney Animation’s history, featuring references to many of their iconic characters. This trailer features Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Tink, Bolt, Winnie the Pooh, Ursula, Moana and many others coming together to throw a party at the Disney Animation studio located on the Burbank lot. Have fun.
Once Upon a Studio was directed by directors Dan Abraham (Once upon a time there was a snowman AND Baymax) AND Trent Correyanimator at Disney ever since FrozenDirector of Once upon a time there was a snowman and the Zootropolis+ series). The Wonderful World of Disney: Disney Centennial Celebration will debut on October 15, 2023.
