Keanu Reeves Wanted John Wick to Really Die, But One Producer Made Sure to Leave a 10% Chance He Would Live

John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk recently talked about the action movie franchise and how Keanu Reeves he really wanted his badass character to die at the end John Wick Chapter 4. He explains that Reeves was physically and emotionally exhausted from making these films. Iwanyk told Collider:

“After the second, third and fourth movies, making these movies is really exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally. At the end, he always says, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy he’s just a shadow of his former self because he goes off and tries. He was like, ‘I want to get killed permanently at the end of this movie.'”

Now, while Keanu is ready to move on, the producers don’t want to say goodbye to him. Iwanyk went on to tease, “We were like, ‘You know, we’ll leave a little 10% opening.’ So there’s a chance we could see Reeves back in the role of John Wick in a fifth installment.

President of the Lionsgate film group Joe Drake I previously said that the studio isn’t done with John Wick. He explained: “We are not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise. It depends on what alternative there will be.” He went on to add that “there are many different things we can do. I’ve seen this movie five times in the last week. I can see the way the audience moves him.”

When we were talking previously John Wick: Chapter 5producer Erica Lee he said, “I think in all the movies at this point in the process, we were like, ‘We’re never doing this again!’ They are very difficult and exhausting to shoot. “John Wick 4″ required 97 days of night shooting, and Keanu [Reeves] he kicks him. Everyone at this point says, ‘We’ve had seven previews, oh my God, we’re done!'”

But once the exhaustion has passed, Lee explains that everyone wants to get back together to do it again: “For the last two films – they both came out in Japan a couple of months later – everyone had some time to “rest and think to what we would have done, what we could do. I think we all remember how much we love each other and these movies. So yes, I’m confident. Is the John Wick character dead? Are there other versions? Are there different stories to tell? I think so.”

As for what Reeves thinks about returning for another film, he said, “I guess I’ll have to rely on never say never.” […] To me, it’s really fitting that John Wick finds peace.”

John Wick Chapter 5 it is also confirmed that it is under development.
