James Wan is about to reveal his second Aquaman movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Although the director knows that he will have to wait and see how the film does at the box office, the future of the franchise will also depend on the plans of DC’s leaders James Gunn AND Pietro SafranWan is still dreaming about what he’d like to see happen next.
During an exclusive trailer reveal event for the upcoming second film in Los Angeles attended by GamesRadar, the director hinted at his hope to one day turn the series into a cinematic universe, which would take viewers to all corners of Atlantis .
“Jason Momoa’s story as Aquaman definitely has more places to go. The world building is very important. We like all the different worlds that no other superhero movie goes into. That’s what’s so great about the movies of Aquaman, they’re really independent. He lives in his own universe.”
He continued:
“My dream would be to create a cinematic universe of the Seven Kingdoms and visit all the different worlds that we come into contact with in these two films. Like the first film, this one leans even more into the spirit of Ray Harryhausen,” he continued. “There are shades of Jules Verne in this one too. As you can see in the trailer, aesthetically I’m leaning a lot on the 1960s Silver Age Aquaman comic, so a lot of the designs in this film have a very retro feel.” “. The spirit and tone are very retro. It’s a little darker than the first film, as second films tend to be, which seemed like the right progression for this film.”
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how the next movie turns out. The first one was fun, but I’m not sure it deserved a whole series of sequels. I have a feeling we’ll know more definitively if we want more Aquaman once the next movie comes out.
Jason Momoa plays Aquaman in the film and he joins him Patrick Wilson like Orm, Amber heard like Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the role of Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanta, Dolph Lundgren as king Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.
Warner Bros. will release the film in theaters on December 20.
