The first trailer of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom dropped yesterday and there seemed to be a lot more excitement than I expected. I’ve seen a lot of positive reactions to the trailer and that’s a good sign for the studio. Personally, I’m keeping expectations low because the first film was mediocre and test screenings of the sequel were awful. So if the movie turns out to be really good… great!
James Wan he is one of my favorite directors and I especially love his horror films. Aquaman is a different beast for him, though, and when it comes to this sequel, he’s trying to incorporate some of his horror sensibilities, as he did with the first film and the creatures from The Trench.
In the next chapter of the story, he’s looking to introduce some nightmarish villains inspired by HP Lovecraft’s creatures. During an interview with /Film, he said:
“I don’t know how to stay away from horror, guys. So in the Lost Kingdom we’re going to be introduced to a lot of creepy, scary, Lovecraftian-looking characters. And ultimately that’s what our heroes have to work on together to stop this.” The Lovecraftian universe does not break into our world.”
It looks really great and I hope Wan can effectively pull off the story he wants to tell. There’s the potential to deliver wonder with a concept like that. I would love nothing more than for this movie to be amazing! I hope Wan and his team give fans something great.
In the film, “Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to defeat Aquaman once and for all,” the official synopsis of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. law. “This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever, as he wields the power of the mythical Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former king of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must put aside their differences to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family and the world from irreversible destruction.
Jason Momoa plays Aquaman in the film and he joins him Patrick Wilson like Orm, Amber heard like Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the role of Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanta, Dolph Lundgren as king Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.
Warner Bros. will release the film in theaters on December 20.
