Guillermo del Toro’s New Insight in FRANKENSTEIN; Producer Says He’s Building “His Him Universe Of Monsters”

A few months ago it was announced that Guillermo del Toro he would finally develop his own Frankenstein movies for Netflix. This has been a dream project for the director and he is making it happen with a great cast that includes him Andrew Garfield, Oscar IsaacAND My Goth.

The film producer, J. Miles Dale, recently talked about the film and offered some additional information about it. According to him, del Toro is building his own universe of monsters. He explains:

“At one time, he was going to do Monster Universe with Universal – Frankenstein’s Bride, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Invisible Man, The Wolf Man – and he didn’t. It seems to us that Shape of Water was some kind of version of a creature So now, here he is making his own universe of monsters.”

I love that del Toro is trying to create a monstrous universe! He has made such an amazing and wonderful movie with The shape of waterand I have no doubt it will be great Frankenstein movie! Dale when he says it will be a “deeply emotional” film:

“In the last two movies, definitely with Nightmare Alley and then with Pinocchio, we’ve been dealing with the whole father-son relationship. And Guillermo and I have both lost our fathers in the last few years. When you have a strong father figure,” that’s a part important in our lives. This version of Frankenstein goes very much down that thematic route. So, I feel this is the third film in Guillermo’s father trilogy. It’s exciting, and when you read the script, it’s very emotional and, of course, very iconic.”

We all know very well Mary Shelleyit’s the classic horror story, and it’s going to be really cool and interesting to see what del Toro takes on it. Speaking about the film’s cast, Dale said:

“It’s a pretty good cast. We’ve had pretty good casts the last two movies. The last one was insane, frankly. I mean, it’s a pinch cast. And so was the cast of The Shape of Water. This is a another dream cast “I think there are a lot of actors who really want to work with Guillermo, and that makes things a little bit easier. So, it should be fun. Nothing comes easy, and that won’t be easy: it’s a great movie.” with a ship stuck in ice and a lot of other stuff, but we have some time and we’re excited to move forward.”

It is unknown who the actors will play, but I hope he chooses Douglas Jones like The Monster! In describing what his version of the classic horror character would look like, Jones said:

“[M]My first thought is that I’m not the big, broad, muscular Frankenstein you have in mind. But I was told, Guillermo is a huge fan of Bernie Wrightson, and a friend of Bernie Wrightson, and Bernie had illustrated a version of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and all the images of Frankenstein’s monster in this one, that’s what he wanted to model my appearance. That he was more emaciated, a little thinner, a little tighter, a little more pathetic. And yet, he had an unnatural physical ability, an unnatural athleticism for him. He’s been stitched together from spares from a couple of different bodies. Very bony face, long, stringy, drawn hair.

The director has been talking about his vision for this project for years. He previously shared his love of the property, but also explained that he’s afraid to own it:

“Frankenstein to me is the pinnacle of everything, and part of me wants to make a version of it, part of me has avoided making it for more than 25 years. I dream of being able to make the greatest Frankenstein ever, but then if you can do it, you have done it. Whether it’s great or not, it’s done. You can no longer dream about it. This is the tragedy of a director. You can dream about something but once you’ve done it, you’ve done it. That’s all. You got a 10 or a 6.5 but you were already in the Olympics and you were judged.

Del Toro seems confident and ready to take on the challenge of making his own Frankenstein movie, and I’m so excited to see what he’s going to do with this story!
