Fake news site Giant Freakin’ Robot strikes again. Movie news website clickbait reported it last week Kenneth Branagh is attached to direct a live-action Gargoyles movies for Disney. Though I’d love nothing more than for Disney to finally make a live-action one Gargoyles movie, this news is not true.
I know people directly involved with the Gargoyles franchise, and after talking to them and reaching out to a few other sources, I can tell you that this is just another story the outlet made up to get clicks. I have a big problem with websites like these. Because a site like ours seeks to provide honest, legit news and rumors from trusted sources and outlets, we have sites like Giant Freakin’ Robot making up bullshit and saying it’s legit.
Lots of people fall for it too! This news from Branagh’s direction Gargoyles is spreading like wildfire on the Internet! I get it, a lot of fans wish news like this was true. But don’t believe everything you read on the internet, especially from a site like Giant Freakin’ Robot. The “news” was then picked up by the Belfast Telegraph and everyone started reporting it as fact.
I could write fake news all day for clicks if I wanted to, but I don’t because I really want people to trust us! Yes, we don’t get the insane kind of crazy traffic that fake news like this gets, but at least we’re not outright lying to people and wasting their time with fake movie news. We are an honest bunch of movie geeks here.
One of the last real news we’ve heard about live-action Gargoyles the movie was a few years ago when Giordano Pele he told Disney he wanted to make the film and pitched them an idea. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of it. I would have liked to see Peele tackle Gargoyles.
I have no idea why Disney is dragging their feet on live-action Gargoyles movies, they’re redoing everything else, but the one live-action adaptation fans really want isn’t happening! It makes no sense to me!
Hopefully, one day there will be some real news to report on a Gargoyles movie! In the meantime, don’t visit websites that fabricate fake news.
Gargoyles it centers around a species of nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles that turn to stone during the day, focusing on a clan led by Goliath. In the year 994, the clan lives in a castle in Scotland. Most are betrayed and killed by humans and the rest are magically doomed to sleep—that is, to be frozen in stone form—until the castle “rises above the clouds.” A millennium later, in 1994, billionaire David Xanatos buys the gargoyle castle and has it rebuilt atop his New York skyscraper, the Eyrie Building, thus awakening Goliath and the rest of his clan. As they try to adjust to their new world, they are helped by a friendly policewoman, Elisa Maza, and quickly come into conflict with Xanatos’ plot. In addition to dealing with the gargoyles’ attempts to adjust to modern-day New York City, the series has also incorporated various supernatural threats to their safety and to the world at large.
Who would you like to see live at Gargoyles movie for Disney?
Update: Gargoyles creator Greg Weismann has confirmed that Branagh is not directing a live-action Gargoyles movie:
I’m thinking… that’s absolutely not true. https://t.co/W1hxrOX0bG
