Patrick Wilson says Zack Snyder’s WATCHMEN ‘was ahead of its time’

I was completely blown away by Zack Snyder’S Guardians When I saw him for the first time. I had never seen a comic book movie like that before, and it was so cool and so unique! I actually attended an early premiere of the movie and I wasn’t under a review embargo at the time, so I ended up posting a review before any other entertainment site.

When I posted that review, it caused an uproar! Holy crap! We had just launched GeekTyrant at the time, so we were very young in the movie website space at the time, and all the big veteran sites were attacking us because we posted that review. It was pretty wild and nerve-wracking. Everyone had to accept an embargo because they attended the official press screenings, but since I wasn’t bound by an embargo, I was good to go! But, yes, those websites weren’t happy with me. Some of the threats I received from these people, some of which are still around, were insane. You can read the review here if you want.

Anyway, Patrick Wilsonwho played Dan Dreiberg aka Nite Owl II in the film recently spoke about the film during an interview with CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast to promote Insidious: The Red Door. Wilson said the film was great and that Zack Snyder was ahead of his time. He said:

“Watchmen is the only film of mine that I’ve watched from start to finish since the premiere. That movie is great. I wanted to share it with my son – I probably also wanted to fast forward the scene with me and Malin [Åkerman] in the ship. [Laugh]. I needed to be close to me.

“No, I wanted to see him as an older boy, like a director. I knew Zack [Snyder] he was ahead of the curve, you know? It’s strange to say that audiences weren’t ready for this, but you need a film like that. You need the movies to get so dark that then Avengers can get so light. I believe it. But yeah, I love that movie.

Guardians It’s a film I find myself rewatching often. It truly is an incredible movie and raised the bar for comic book movies and showed what comic book movies could be! What did you think about Guardians when did you first see it? What do you think now?
