Christopher Nolan praises OPPENHEIMER and BARBIE opening same day saying ‘crowded’ market is ‘healthy’

Movies Oppenheimer AND Barbie they’re going head-to-head at the box office next weekend, and it’s not just movie fans who are looking forward to them. Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan he’s excited for the two films to come out together, as it marks an opportunity we’ve been waiting for since the pandemic: picks in theaters.

Nolan recently told IGN that it’s “awesome” to have both summer tentpoles open on the same day.

“Summer, in a healthy market, is always crowded and we have been doing it for a long time. I think for those of us who care about movies, we’ve been really waiting to have a busy market again, and now it’s here and it’s great.

Cillian Murphywho plays the title role of Oppenheimeragreed with Nolan, telling IGN:

“I think it’s great. I mean, I’m going to see ‘Barbie.’ full day at the cinema, what could be better than that?

Oppenheimer co-star Matt Damon agrees:

“I love that people talk about going to two movies in one weekend. Well [Affleck] and I used to go to two movies every weekend, and I think people should.

One third Oppenheimer cast member, Emily Blunt called it “great” that the two films opened simultaneously as “the interest in the variety of what’s available is so fantastic.”

While Barbie AND Oppenheimer were originally pitted as rivals (most likely because Nolan is gone Barbie Warner Bros. studio after more than a decade to make Oppenheimer at Universal), the two films have started to lift each other up in recent weeks. AMC Theaters reported July 10 that more than 20,000 members of its AMC Stubs program have purchased tickets to see both Barbie AND Oppenheimer the same day.

Elizabeth Frank, executive vice president of worldwide programming and chief content officer of AMC Theaters, said:

“The fact that more than 20,000 moviegoers have already planned and purchased tickets to see ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ on the same day is a great sign that the growing online conversation about watching both of these incredible films is turning into ticket sales.” “.

It’s great that movie fans have choices again! I can’t wait to go to the cinema next weekend and see both of these films. Barbie AND Oppenheimer opens in theaters July 21.
