Fans discussed their desire to see the director’s cut Joel Schumacher’S Batman forever. Now it’s finally happening and the length of the film has been revealed, as well as some early reactions. The film we saw in theaters (or on DVD or streaming if you’re too young for all this) had a running time of 121 minutes. This new cut clocks in at 158 minutes, boasting 37 new minutes of content.
According to a report from World of Reel (via comingsoon), Kevin Smith, who was one of the original people to talk about the extension Batman forever cut — screened Joel Schumacher’s extended cut of Batman Forever to a handful of friends and fans at a private screening earlier this month at the Smodcastle Cinema in New Jersey.
The report claims that this cut of the film has a “slower pace” and that while it would still need tweaking in places like the soundtrack and visual effects, the film can “breathe” in a way the original did not.
Several people took to Twitter shortly after seeing the project, with one noting that the film featured “a deeper and more psychologically complex character arc” For Val Kilmerit’s Bruce Wayne/Batman. Another user confirmed that it was the “top cut” of the film.
Earlier this year, journalist, writer and podcaster Marc Bernardin sparked hope in film fans when he said he had “very good authority” on the existence of a 170-minute version of the late Schumacher’s film, but that Warner Bros. Discovery didn’t know if there was “any hunger” to be released.
Smith then chimed in and announced in June on his Fatman Beyond podcast (which is co-hosted by Bernardin) that he did indeed have the film on hand. Smith described the project as longer and very good.
Does that make you more excited to check out the film in person? Let us know below.
