After Johnny Depp went through that dramatic libel trial against Amber heard and he won, he’s moving on with his life and career. As you can imagine, he’s ready and willing to start making big studio movies again, and according to a recent report, he’s open to working with Disney again.
People recently reported that Depp “felt betrayed by the company,” but an inside source claims that “Anything is possible” and “If it’s the right design, he’ll do it.”
The big franchise that Disney partnered with Depp on was Pirates of the Caribbeanand producer Jerry Bruckheimer pushed to bring him back for another Pirates movie as Captain Jack Sparrow. A few months ago the manufacturer said:
We’re all working on it. We’ll see how it turns out. But we’re very excited. I think we’re going to have a great script. And we’re getting close. We’ll see.
As far as what Disney thinks, they are said to be “apparently opening the door” to team up with Depp again. A Disney executive previously said:
“I absolutely believe after the verdict that Pirates is ready for a reboot with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board. There’s just too much potential box office treasure for a beloved character deeply rooted in Disney culture.”
President of Film Production at Disney Studio Sean Bailey spoke about the new Pirates movie that is in development saying, “We think we have a really cool and exciting story that honors the movies that have come before it and also has something new about it.”
As of right now, Depp isn’t involved and Disney has been “noncommittal at this point.” The thing is, audiences want a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie?! I really don’t need to see another one. Right now Disney has released several movies that fell below expectations at the box office. Not sure if they’re willing to take a big gamble on another Pirates movie with Depp right now.
Personally, if they decide to work together again, I would much rather see them collaborate on a completely different project. What do you think?
