Russell Crowe Being Asked So Many Questions About GLADIATOR 2 That ‘They Should Pay Me’

With Ridley Scott currently in production on Gladiator 2 AND Russell Crowe making the rounds in the press, the actor is constantly being asked about the movie, which is funny because he really has nothing to do with it. I don’t understand what people keep asking him about the movie because he’s made it clear that he doesn’t know anything, and he doesn’t understand why people keep asking him about it as well.

Despite the fact that Massimo died in Gladiator and Crowe has repeatedly confirmed that he won’t be returning to the role in the sequel, people keep asking him. In a recent appearance at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, the actor said he’s sick of answering questions about the film and that they should pay him for it.

“They should fucking pay me for the amount of questions I get asked about a movie I’m not even in. It has nothing to do with me. In that world, I’m dead. Six feet underground. But I admit that to a certain nuance of jealousy, because it reminds me of when I was younger and what it meant to me, in my life.

“I don’t know anything about the cast, I don’t know anything about the plot. I’m dead! But I know that if Ridley decided to do a second part of the story, over 20 years later, he must have had very strong reasons. I can’t think this film is anything but spectacular.

So, uh… maybe the reporters should stop asking him about the movie. You know what’s funny, but… they won’t stop.

What we do know about the film is that it centers on Lucius, son of Lucilla and grandson of Commodus, son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who killed his father and took the throne. Commodus met his downfall in the gladiatorial arena against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, defeated the emperor before moving on to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucio and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the boy.

The film is the protagonist Paul Mescal like Lucio, Peter Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen as Lucilla and protagonist of Stranger Things Joseph Quinn like the emperor Caracalla. Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) will also play Emperor Geta.

Paramount Pictures will release the film on November 22, 2024.
