Details revealed for Ari Aster’s western-noir comedy EDDINGTON

Ari Asterthe director of films such as Hereditary, Mid summerand more recently Beau is scaredhe talked about a feature film project he ultimately wants to make titled Eddingtonwhich he describes as a “dark western-noir comedy”.

During a recent interview during a Reddit AMA session, Aster said of the project, “There was a period of time where I thought Mid summer would have been the debut film, and there was a time when I thought another script called Eddington it could be the first film”.

Even if the film isn’t the next film he makes, it’s what he ultimately wants to come: “For about five years, I’ve been trying to keep that western-noir ensemble dark comedy going. It won’t be next, however, although I still want to make it. I did Hereditary before, but I always have Mid summer in my back pocket, like it was right there inside me.

The director concluded: “Although it’s sort of – I don’t know if you would call it a revisionist western. It is contemporary; one foot is in the western and one foot is even more heavily in the noir genre. So it’s like a film noir dark western comedy.”

Sounds like it would make a great and interesting movie, especially with Aster at the helm. He’s such a talented director and storyteller, he also sure knows how to make you feel uncomfortable. Eddington it feels like a different style of film for him, and I hope he ends up making it soon because I’d love to watch it.
