Lionsgate’s LEPRECHAUN reboot moves forward with director Felipe Vargas

Lionsgate set to find that pot of gold, as they’re moving forward with its reboot of the 1993 cult film Leprechaun. They also hired Philip Vargas to direct the film from a script written by Mike Van Waeswho recently worked on Disney’s live-action Lillo & Stitch movie.

As for Vargas, he has only directed short films and is set to make his film debut with a film called Rosario in Colombia.

There is no information on the film’s plot, but it is said to be “a re-imagining for a new generation of moviegoers”. Warwick Davis has played the role of the vengeful goblin over the course of six films, though he’s not expected to return.

You know what would be fun? If they had cast Jennifer Aniston in the movie and had her reprise her role from the first movie! That would be great, but that’s most likely not the direction they’re going to take the reboot.

In the original movie Leprechaun, “Dan O’Grady steals 100 gold pieces from a leprechaun while on vacation in Ireland. The leprechaun follows him home, but Dan locks the mythical murderous creature in a chest, kept at bay by a four-leaf clover. Ten years later, JD Redding and his daughter, Tory, rent O’Grady’s property for the summer. When their new neighbors accidentally release the leprechaun, he goes on a killing rampage to reclaim his gold.

Of vertigo Roy Lee AND Miri Yoon will produce the film.
