It seems Ezra Miller will continue to play Berry Allan in any potential sequels to The flash that could be accomplished. The flash director Andy Muschietti was recently a guest of The speech podcast, and on the show, he said he has no plans to repay Miller despite the actor’s recent history of legal troubles and abuse. When asked if he wants Miller to return to The Flash, the director said:
“Self [a sequel] it happens, yes. I don’t think there’s anyone who can play that character as well as they can. The other portrayals of the character are great, but this particular take on the character, they’re just excellent at it. And, as you said, the two Barrys, he feels like a character made for them.
The flash producer Barbara Muschietti added:
“In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the busiest and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything to this role: physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.
After making the movie though, Miller went off the rails and did some scary things. The actor is getting help now, but their reputation has been badly damaged. It was initially reported that we shouldn’t expect to see Miller again to play The Flash again, which makes sense given what they’ve done. Then it was reported that Warner Bros. was open to working with Miller again, which a lot of people seemed very confused about.
Muschietti previously had this to say about Miller’s condition: “Ezra is fine now. Let’s all hope they are better… They are taking steps to recover. They are dealing with mental health issues, but they are fine. We spoke to them not too long ago and they are very committed to improving.”
Barbara she added, “And, I have to say, during our shoot, during principal photography, their commitment to the role was like nothing we’ve ever seen. And the discipline in the work, the will – physical, mental and the desire to going over the edge – it’s just amazing.”
I will say Miller was amazing in the movie, but people in Hollywood were written off for less than the list of things Miller did. I’m fine with second chances, but if Miller is going to be given the opportunity for a second chance, then a lot of other people should be given a second chance too, right?
In the end, it’s all up to the DC Studios CEO team James Gunn AND Peter Safran on whether Miller returns. Gunn ended up getting a second chance after being canceled, and now look at where he stands. So he might be willing to give Miller a second chance as well.
Gunn has already lauded the film as “one of the greatest superhero movies” ever made, while Safran said Miller’s future as the Flash hinges on their continued recovery.
“Ezra is fully committed to their recovery and we fully support the journey they are on right now. When the time is right, when they feel ready for discussion, we will all understand what is the best path forward. But right now, they are fully focused on their recovery. And in our conversations with them over the past couple of months, they seem to be making tremendous progress.”
What do you think about the strong possibility that Ezra Miller will return to play The Flash one day?
