It’s no secret that Michael B. Giordano was heavily inspired by anime when developing and directing Creed III. After seeing the movie, it was easy to see that influence, especially in the fight sequences. Speaking about directing those fight scenes, Jordon said:
“There were eight other films before me, and we shot — you can shoot a boxing match so many different ways. I think being backed into a corner forced me to be more creative and really think outside the box about how to make the fights different…and I had a huge Japanese anime influence on a lot of my fighters.”
Well, with the film’s Japanese release coming later this month, Jordan shared that a Creed III the anime short was made to be released with the film. She shared a stylized graphic of her Adonis Creed character on Instagram and came with the following note:
“Hello Japan. We have made a special anime as a surprise for Japanese fans that will be screened after the movie. Creed 3 will be released in theaters in Japan this coming weekend – get your tickets now to see what it’s all about!”
It’s pretty cool! I’m sure we will see that anime short eventually. Jordan is also developing a full Creed anime series for Amazon Prime as well. So, this short has to be kind of an experiment in what that could be like. Jordan is trying to build a whole I believe universe, which will include more movies and shows. The anime series is just a small part of that.
