Aladdin star Mena Massud he recently took to social media to throw shade on Disney’s upcoming live-action remake The little Mermaid. Now, Aladdin grossed over $1 billion at the box office worldwide, and while there have been reports of a sequel underway, nothing has been confirmed by Disney. Massoud definitely didn’t hear anything from his side, and he seems pretty frustrated about it.

Massoud wrote on Twitter (via Yahoo): “Our film was unique in that audiences went to watch it multiple times. It’s the only way we could hit the billion dollar mark with our opening. My guess is that TLM not exceed a billion dollars. but it will undoubtedly have a sequel”.

Not long after sharing it, the actor deactivated his account. I can understand his frustration because he hasn’t worked since Aladdin has been released, so a sequel could really help that. But, at the same time, the film industry is a beast, and it’s a game that requires a lot of patience. Massoud must be careful not to burn bridges at Disney!

When previously speaking of Aladdin 2Massoud said: “I don’t know if there’s any movement. There’s been a change with the writers and they’re working on a brand new draft. That’s all I know. If Aladdin 2 it happens, it’s great. I think it should happen. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback Productions, who made the Lego movies and Aladdin, I want to make sure they get it right. So if we see Aladdin 2, will not be based on the animated version at all. This will be a new original story.” However, the actor has since said that a sequel is “very unlikely at this point.”

As for The little Mermaidthe film is expected to make $110 million over Memorial Day weekend. It probably won’t do as well as Aladdin, but who knows if it will have a sequel or not. As of right now, very few of Disney’s live-action remakes have had a sequel. I believe Maleficent it is the only one.
