Since their big screen debut in 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy have become one of the most beloved and outlandish teams in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among the team members there is a particularly intriguing character: Rocket.
Although it may look like an anthropomorphic raccoon at first glance, Rocket has made it clear on more than one occasion that he’s not just a raccoon.. Rocket insists that he is not a raccoon, based on the facts and background of his story about him in the comics and movies.
To better understand why Rocket isn’t considered a raccoon, we need to go back to his origins in Marvel comics. Rocket Raccoon was created by Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen in 1976., and its appearance was initially conceived as that of a genetically engineered raccoon from the planet Halfworld. However, as the character has developed, it has been revealed that Rocket is much more than that.
Throughout his history in the comics, Rocket has been shown to have superior intelligence, impressive tactical skills, and a keen understanding of technology. In addition, he has led teams and has been instrumental in the fight against various cosmic threats. These characteristics distinguish it from a simple raccoon and they put it on a completely different level.

Rocket takes place in the MCU with a complex story
In the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Rocket is masterfully portrayed by actor Bradley Cooper, who brings him to life through his voice. While Rocket’s visual appearance resembles a raccoon, his personality and abilities far exceed the expectations of what one might expect from a normal animal. His mastery of weapons and combat prowess make him an indispensable member of the team.
Moreover, Rocket has an emotionally complex history which led him to face challenges and difficult situations. He battled experimentation and abuse and constantly sought his place in the universe. These aspects of her history and his personality further distance him from the simplistic idea of a raccoon.

It is important to recognize this Rocket’s claim that he’s not a raccoon can also be taken as a rejection be defined by their physical appearance. Throughout his existence, Rocket has struggled with discrimination and the idea of being labeled “just a raccoon.” He sees himself as a unique individual, with his own skills and experiences that set him apart from anyone else.
As a last option, Rocket considers himself intelligent, brave, and capable, and refuses to be labeled solely as a raccoon.. His claim that he’s not a raccoon is a reminder to all of us not to judge others based on their looks or superficial stereotypes. He teaches us the importance of valuing people for who they are inside and not for their outward appearance.
