James Gunn he has been busy meeting with actors to take the lead roles in his next film Superman: Legacy movie and his first choice to play the role of Clark Kent aka Superman is David Corenswet. I’m sure that name doesn’t ring a bell for anyone as it was the biggest movie role she’s ever had Ti West AND My Gothit’s a horror movie Pearl. He has also appeared in shows like Hollywood AND The politician.
He definitely looks like Superman, almost like a slightly younger version of Henry Cavill! While Corenswet is Gunn’s first choice, I hear she’s still testing other actors for the role at the studio. But, if Gunn gets his way, Corenswet will be the new Man of Steel. There are two other actors rumored to be in the mix. I like that Gunn is looking for an unknown actor for the part.
THR also reports it Rachel Brosnahanof Amazon acclaimed The wonderful Mrs. Maisel, is in the running for the role of Lois Lane. I really like that casting, but there are other actresses in the running Samara texture (Ready or Not), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), AND Emma Mackey (Sex education).
Brosnahan is said to have had an “outstanding” audition and I think he’s the best choice, but at 32, “he may be in the older bracket for what Gunn hopes to get, a look at Metropolis heroism through 20 and something characters.” Which, I hope is not the case. If he had a great audition, damn cast it!
It is also reported that Nicholas Hoult (Renfeild) is set to play classic DC villain Lex Luthor. It is explained that “Hoult’s name has been floating around Legacy for several weeks now with some theories that he was ready for Superman.”
Hoult was the runner-up for Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batmanbut in the end the role went to Robert Pattinson. According to an inside source: “The studio loves him since Fury Road,” so they want to continue working with him. There’s a strong possibility that it ends in Superman: Legacy.
The report claims that some of these actors aren’t screen rehearsing and have simply been in the mix. Another source dismissed some of the names as “a list of chat rooms.” As you might expect, Warners didn’t comment, and an insider said the filmmakers and the studio “are nowhere near a decision.” As for what Gunn had to say, he shared Chirping:
For all of you asking, I would never comment on who auditions for a role or not. It’s just the actor’s business and it’s not something I’d go public with unless they did before after the fact (like @GlennHowerton or @ZacharyLevi who auditioned for Star-Lord and were top picks). As of now, only one person has been CAST in Superman: Legacy, and that’s none of the regular players in the world of Superman.
The film will introduce a new version of Superman and tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, driven by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Superman: Legacy will launch the film portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1, and will be followed by The brave and the daring, Supergirl, Swamp thingand more.
Pre-production on the film began last month, with costumes, set design, and more now in production.
What are your thoughts on some of these potentials Superman: Legacy casting choices?
