THE WINCHESTERS & KUNG FU Canceled From The CW;  The actors respond

The Winchesters was canceled after one season on The CW, with the network also canceling the reboot of Kung Fu after three seasons.

The Supernatural prequel series, The Winchestersfollowed demon hunters: Sam and Dean’s parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly), telling the story of how the pair met as teenagers and eventually teamed up to save the entire world. The story is told by Dean’s (Jensen Ackles), marking the first return of Ackles’ character since the series finale in November 2020.

Inspired by the original Kung Fu created by Ed Spielmanreboot of the 1970s series follows Nicky Shen (Olivia Liang), whose quarter-life crisis causes this young Chinese American woman to drop out of college and embark on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to San Francisco, she discovers that her hometown is overrun with crime and corruption, and that her own parents are Jin (Tzi Ma) and Mei Li (Kheng Hua Tan) are at the mercy of a powerful Triad.

The CW said in a statement:

“As we reimagine the new CW, we’ve had to make some tough scheduling decisions. We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the cast and creative teams of ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘The Winchester’ for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.”

Jensen Ackles has taken to social media in an attempt to mobilize Supernatural fans in a campaign to find the undone Supernatural prequel a new home.

Kung Fu star Olivia Liang said in an Instagram post, “It has been the honor of my fucking life to work with this group of humans. we made three historic seasons of a show. first predominantly Asian cast in one-hour network drama. first Asian American female showrunner. I don’t have enough words (or space in this carousel) to express my gratitude to my show-runners, my writers, my cast, my stunt team, my (expletive) crew… love you all. I really won the lottery. they are all the kindest, smartest, funniest, hardest working people in the world,” Liang continued. “I am so so so proud of the work we have done. to our little show he could .. cheers Kung Fu, the show that changed my life forever 🤍 love you Nicky Shen.”
