Cinema Therapy explores the character journey of Luke Skywalker

Cinema Therapy is a fun YouTube channel that features a licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and director Alan Searight as they talk about all kinds of movies. In a recent video, the couple decided to talk about everyone’s favorite Mary Sue, Luke Skywalker. Luke is the main character of the original Star Wars trilogy and when it was placed in the sequel trilogy via The Last Jedi, many fans were not happy. There was a clamor to say it Rian Johnson it had betrayed the character and ruined the franchise. I personally loved The Last Jedi and I thought the characterization was reasonable.

It takes Decker and Seawright about 30 minutes to retrace Luke’s journey as a human throughout the Star Wars saga though to see how well it fits his characterization. They also share thoughts on the majesty and brilliance of the scene where Yoda lifts the X-Wing out of the swamp in The empire strikes again. It’s a fascinating video and I enjoyed it (thanks confirmation bias). Please be civil in the comments.
