Two years ago, Disney announced they were moving forward with a live-action remake of their 1997 made-for-TV movie, Tower of Terror, based on the Disney Parks attraction. The announcement came with the news that Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow, A story of marriage) would act, and she Jojo Rabbit director, Taika Waititi, would steer. But since then, things have been pretty quiet.
Now we’ve learned via a recent Scarlett Johansson profile with Variety that the project is still ongoing! Despite the actress’ recent lawsuit against the mega-company and her settlement with her in court, Johansson says things are moving forward, and she’s more obsessed than ever with all things Disney, which she says stems from a two-year period when his family lived in Florida. She still attends the Disney Parks 10 times a year and is hooked on all of her favorite Disney movies, including the upcoming live-action The little Mermaid:
“We had annual passes to Disney World and I have a real passion for Disney parks. Also, when I was growing up, it was a great time for Disney animation: ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Lion King’ with the amazing soundtrack. For example, I will pre-purchase tickets for “The Little Mermaid”. I actually need to text my sister about it.
As for Tower of TerrorTHE twilight zone the themed ride was previously adapted into a 1997 TV movie starring Steve Guttenberg AND Kirsten Dunst. Disney’s new adaptation was first written by John August (Big fish AND Frankenweenie), and now has Story of the toy 4 director and Inside out scribe Josh Cooley even writing. Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok AND Love and thunder) is still on board to direct. There’s no full synopsis, but the film is said to be about five people in a posh hotel who take an elevator and disappear after it’s struck by lightning.
You are looking forward to the adaptation of Tower of Terror?
