Simon Mc Quoidwho directed the 2021 film, will return to direct the sequel, which is where the screenplay comes from Jeremy Slaterwho worked previously Knight of the Moon AND The Umbrella Academy. I wasn’t a fan of the last Mortal Kombat movie that came out. It just felt lazy to me. But who knows, maybe the sequel will be better. The post-credits scene teased that Johnny Cage would arrive in the sequel.
We have no idea what the sequel will entail, but Lewis Tanwho played Cole Young in the latest film, says she’s been “practicing [his] butt out” for the new film. He also teased that the sequel will be “absolutely insane. Much bigger”.
Slater has also previously shared his unique approach to the franchise, saying:
“I feel like the blood in Mortal Kombat is great and that’s part of what people come for, you always have to find that balance between fun gore and gross gore, right? Because there are moments where you rip someone’s heart out or the best kill in the first movie is Kung Lao’s spinning hat that cuts her in half and that’s the perfect example of fun gore because it’s disgusting, but everyone’s laughing at the same time right? kind of gore daring and they’re not sitting there sort of disgusted with close ups of dripping visceral bowels and stuff like that.
“There’s a tongue-in-cheek aspect of Mortal Kombat in terms of violence and in terms of gore, there’s a little wink at the audience that goes, ‘Yeah, we know this is ridiculous, but it’s really fun and we’re all into it. in the joke together,'” Slater continued. “And when you find that balance right, I think that’s where you get moments like that incredibly bloody first battle that opens the first film with the soundtrack with Hanzo slaying all the assassins or you get the gag or stuff like that. we’re trying to emulate those gory moments from the first one that were really, really successful and had huge audience reactions and how can we give the audience even more this time around.”
Johnny Cage is a brash and cocky action movie star and martial artist and is one of the most popular characters in the franchise to date. Are you excited to see Karl Urban play this character!?
