James Gunn shares heartfelt tribute to STAR WARS and how it inspired GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

His Star Wars Dayand fans are celebrating their love for the franchise in many different ways. Let’s face it, the world and movies just wouldn’t be the same without it Star Wars. It’s hard to imagine what life would be like without the franchise as it has impacted so many people’s lives in so many different ways.

Director James Gunn recently shared his heartfelt tribute to the franchise and how it’s been a huge inspiration to him Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise. Here’s what he said in a tweet:

“11 years ago I had a meeting with Marvel Studios about the possibility of making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I remember coming home and thinking I didn’t want to make a movie LIKE Star Wars, but a movie that made people FEEL like Star Wars made me feel like a kid. Extravagant characters, extraordinary locations, a space opera with a touch of heart-filled magic. Thank you, Star Wars, for inspiring me, and how fitting it is that the third installment of our trilogy is playing in cinemas around the world tonight, May 4th.

Gunn absolutely accomplished what he was trying to do! I love the Star Wars universe and I remember what it was like for me to watch those original movies as a kid! I was so immersed in those stories and loved those characters so much. Those movies blew my imagination in huge ways that I’ve never lost.

THE Guardians of the Galaxy the franchise made me feel like that again. Those movies made me feel like a kid again! While they aren’t Star Wars movies, Gunn has managed to capture their spirit beautifully Star Wars.
