Searchlight has scheduled a theatrical release for its second film with filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos for September 8. Poor stuff.

Stone plays Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman who is married to the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s tutelage, Bella is eager to learn. Starving for the worldliness she lacks, Bella embarks on a fast-paced adventure across continents with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slippery and debauched lawyer. Freed from the prejudices of her time, Bella grows steadfast in her goal to stand for equality and liberation.
Lanthimos The favorite received ten Oscar nominations and won Best Actress for Olivia Colman. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Supporting Actress Stone.
Poor stuff its fall release is pretty early — it wouldn’t be a shock to see it in Telluride or Venice, but it’s too late for TIFF, which runs Sept. 7-17.
