Bruce Campbell recently revealed that Sam Raimi is currently building an Evil Dead bible for filmmakers coming in to work on the franchise and hoping to release a new Evil Dead movie every two to three years.
WELL, The Rise of the Evil Dead the director, Lee Cronin, has an idea for another Evil Dead movie that he wants to make, and it looks pretty damn awesome. There are light spoilers ahead, but he shared:
“To me, really what it was driven by is the idea that force really can’t be destroyed. moving forward. So, that’s a path. There’s also, there’s a second storyline, a hundred years in the past that’s shared in this one. And this is also a storyline that I boiled over for what’s going on behind that vinyl. You could go back in time. Then I have a priest against a hundred Deadites. ‘John Wick Evil Dead.'”
I have to see that movie! When that vinyl record played in the Priest film, I immediately thought I wanted to see that story unfold! It’s a great concept and would make a great movie. Now that Cronin has spread it across the universe, it has to happen. Must do this movie!
The vinyl record that accompanied the Book of the Dead in the film which Danny finds in an old vault offers an insight into the story of a 100-year-old priest who finds himself battling some undead. Cronin went on to explain that he saw his work as opening up and expanding this universe, saying:
“The challenge I was given was to move the dial with this world, to open up the world in a different way. I hope I succeeded. I actually left some doors open to enter that world. There is that shell and that wrapper is always there. I wanted to show the fans that I understand the world, I understand where it’s been, but here too there’s change, here’s the drop of the needle, that’s where we’re going we’re going. We’re going somewhere else.”
As for other ideas for the sequel, like continuing to follow Beth’s (Lily Sullivan) character after her blood-soaked ordeal, the director said:
“Also there’s the 10 Minutes Later story for the ones who…the lucky ones who maybe make it out alive. There’s that place too. And then all the same, what about when the authorities show up at this building and find the carnage that’s there? And if you recall, there’s still some really hardcore remnants left in that building that could impact a whole new set of unsuspecting factors.”
Well, I really hope Cronin starts developing his next Evil Dead movie soon! The one on the priest is the one I have to see!
