A24 has released the first trailer for the upcoming indie horror film Speak with me. I had the opportunity to watch this film at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it was my favorite film of the festival! It offers a fantastic, unique and terrifying story that horror fans will enjoy!

The film centers on a group of friends who discover how to summon spirits using an embalmed hand. As they continue to play with it, they grow hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes nightmarish supernatural forces.
This first trailer is just a small taste of what this film has to offer. What I like about this trailer is that it doesn’t reveal the story and saves the best parts of the film for the audience to experience.
I said in my review of the film: “Even though the film gave me chills, I walked out of the theater with a huge smile on my face! This movie is about the occult, and I’ve had my own ideas about movies that are about playing with witchcraft and the occult. I feel like a lot of the movies that have been made in the past miss the mark, especially when they involve teenagers. But this one nails it! Speak with me plays with some big wacky ideas and executes them perfectly.
“I loved how the filmmakers handle all the horror elements of the film. It was legitimately scary stuff and it all served the purpose of the story. The scares weren’t thrown in just for the hell of it, but they helped push the story forward in heartbreaking and interesting ways. There were also some cool makeup effects created for the film for the ghosts these teenagers encounter throughout the film, along with other brutal things that happen.
The synopsis reads: “Spirit summoning has become the latest local party craze, and he seeks a distraction on the anniversary of his mother’s death, teenager Mia (Sophie Wilde) is determined to get a piece of the otherworldly action. When her group of friends gathers for another unruly séance with the mysterious embalmed hand that promises a direct line to the spirits, they are unprepared for the consequences of breaking the rules through prolonged contact. As the line between worlds collapses and disturbing supernatural visions increasingly haunt Mia, she scrambles to repair the horrific damage before it is irreversible.
The film was directed by the brothers Danny Philip AND Michael Philip and is the protagonist Sophie Wilde like Mia, Joe Bird like Riley, Alexandra Jensen, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Marcus Johnson, Alexandria Steffensen, Zoe TerakesAND Chris Alosio.
A24 will release Speak with me in theaters starting July 28, 2023.
