

‘The Exorcist of the Pope’ starring Russell Crowe is inspired by a true horror story – Broadcasting (Sony Pictures)
While this month is not the best season for horror movies, ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ with Russell Crowe lands in international cinemas and with its realistic story could become one of the best of the year. This will be the first horror project in which the actor participates as the main character, which makes it even more attractive to the audience.
Regard the story of the famous priest Gabriele Amorth, who faced one of the most chilling demonic possessions in church history, a story that was covered up by the Vatican. Russell Crowe embodies this famous priest.
Gabriele Amorth, born on May 1, 1925, was one of the most important preachers of the Catholic Church. He grew up in Modena, Rome, and discovered his calling at the age of 12. It was thanks to his active participation in the parish Catholic Action and in the San Vincenzo Association that he had the opportunity to go to the Vatican for the first time.
But Amorth’s story doesn’t end there. In his memoirs of him, he tells how fought against the Nazis in WWII, even if this was not an environment in which he felt accomplished or comfortable. In 1951, Amorth was already officially ordained a priest, but he stayed away from exorcism for several decades.

It was in the 1980s, nearing age 60, that Amorth became an apprentice of the priest Candido Amantini, one of the most famous exorcists of Rome, who taught him everything needed to fight demons, and together they performed the first exorcism Amorth participated in. It has since become a regular activity for which he has been recognized.
In 1986, Amorth was appointed Chief Exorcist of the Diocese of Rome and it is estimated that he performed at least 70,000 exorcisms. In 1990 he founded the International Association of Exorcists, which he chaired for 10 years, and has published two books recounting his most terrifying cases of him during his 30 years as an exorcist.
Sadly, Amorth passed away on September 16, 2016 at the age of 91. But now the actor Russell Croweknown for his role in the film “Gladiator”, he will bring to life the priest in the next film which promises to be a success.

What is ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ about?
The story of this film is really amazing and it is based on the writings of the father Gabriel Love. This priest was the Vatican’s chief exorcist and performed more than 100,000 exorcisms worldwide. The BBC reports that he was born in Modena, Italy, in 1925 and that although he felt called by God at the age of 17, he did not immediately join the congregation.

“The Pope’s Exorcist” It was released in theaters on April 5th, in other regions it will be released on the 14th of the same month, with the expectation that it can become one of the best horror films of the year.
