Russell Crowe Says KRAVEN THE HUNTER Movie Set in an ‘Unexpectedly Dark World’

Kraven The Hunter is such a fascinating character and I love his story arc in the comics which involves hunting down Spider-Man. I’ve been curious about Sony Kraven the hunter movie because while I like this evil character, Spider-Man won’t be involved in the movie and I want to see Kraven and Spidey face off!

Who knows, though, maybe they’ll come up with a good story for Kraven! Aaron Taylor Johnson he’s taking on the role of Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven, who is a big game hunter. Russell Crowe he also stars in the film and during a recent interview with CBR, he shared some insights that fans might find interesting.

When asked about the project, Crowe explained that it’s “unexpectedly dark,” saying:

“I spoke to JC Chandor, the director. He’s really excited about what he has ahead of him and he’s really excited about how people are going to receive it. I think I can kind of convey that of the things he said, that it’s just an unexpectedly dark world.

Now, Crowe has yet to see the film and also shared that there will be “another round of reshoots” that he’ll be taking part in, which is expected to happen in a few weeks.

Crowe’s role remains unknown, but there have been unconfirmed rumors that he’ll be playing Nikolai Kravinoff, Kraven’s father, which would make sense. It’s not hard to imagine Crowe in that role.

In a previous interview with Taylor-Johnson, he was asked if Kraven would still have that “lion mane” in the film, and this is what he had to say about the film and his character:

“I can’t confirm any details or anything. Also, I’m guessing it was probably taken a little bit out of context and then published. I mean, I think you know what I meant by what he really stated was that he was a protector of the natural world ho said and he’s an environmentalist, which is probably more accurate, and so he should have stopped there, period, he shouldn’t have gone any further because, yes, I think you know you really have to understand, yes, he is a hunter and from that hunting world and there are so many aspects. What I love about that character is what is humanizing is that he has flaws, right? Kraven is a beautiful character. Sergei Kravinov is a beautiful character because he is someone who is really understanding if themselves and has flaws. This is a character that was built ages ago and is in a new time and era, but yes, will he be the hunter that we all want to see? Yes, absolutely. Absolutely.

JC Chandor is directing the film from a script by Mark art AND Matt Holloway (Iron man), and is also the protagonist Ariana DeBose like Calypso, Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff, Fred Hechinger like Chameleon, Alexander Nivola like a bad stranger, Levi Miller, AND Take 22 star Christopher Abbott as the main villain, The Foreigner.

Kraven the hunter hits theaters October 6, 2023.
