Speaking about the making of the film, Lowery said, “In the making Peter Pan and Wendy, we set out to make a film that honors both the original text by JM Barrie and the animated adaptation by Walt Disney; we wanted to invigorate our retelling with emotional sincerity, an open heart and a great desire for adventure. Hundreds of incredible artists have spent many years bringing this film to the screen; I am thrilled that the public can see their work, take this journey and rediscover an evergreen story from a new perspective.
He also spoke about his vision, saying he wanted to achieve “The avenger with flying kids”, and explained: “I hesitate to use the word grounded because it contains fairies and flying children. But when I went to the studio to talk about it, I was like, ‘What if we stay true to the source material? , remove the problematic elements of both the novel and the animated film of course, but then treat them like The avenger. What if we did The Revenant with flying kids?’ And they were involved. It’s not 100% like that, but it’s kind of the ethos that we made it with… That was kind of the idea, that it’s visceral, that it’s grounded, it’s still joyful, it’s still full of exuberance and magic, that’s why I don’t like to use the word ‘rooted’”.
Lowery who is a talented director who has directed films like Pete’s dragon AND The Green Knighthe’s a great storyteller and I can’t wait to see what he adds to this classic story.
