“It’s Monk today after all the time we’ve been away from him, 13 years now, 14 years. This is post-covid. and stuff like that. Hopefully (laughs). We’ll have to write about Monk being older.”

He went on to say that the film will tell a “really cool story” and joked, “I can’t say too much about it, but it has all the positive elements the show has always strived for with some new twists.”

It will be really interesting and fun to see how Monk is living his life after the events of the series and after living through a pandemic. Monk is a brilliant detective whose OCD hinders his daily life, but also gives him supernatural powers of observation.

Shalhoub continued to share his excitement, saying:

“I’m really excited to revisit it because when we wrapped it up, it really felt like it was going to be like this. But to have this opportunity to see where we all are [is special]. All the characters went through some changes over those years.”

There aren’t really any other details about the show, but the original cast will be back along with the original writing team. Some of the other characters in the series include his original assistant Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levi), Lieutenant Randy Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), and his second assistant Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) and his daughter Julie (Emmy Clark).

He also revealed that the film’s shooting will begin in May in Toronto.
