The Russo Brothers’ Amazon series CITADEL has been renewed for a second season

The big budget action series Citadel was renewed for a second season on Amazon ahead of the first season’s premiere. Created by The Russo Brothersand protagonist Priyanka Chopra Jonas AND Richard Madenthe news comes after the series debuted a clip and keynote this month at South by Southwest.

Ordered in 2018, the series has been described as a “wide-ranging, multi-layered series of international events”. From avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Citadel has already spawned an Indian adaptation as Amazon hopes the spy drama could become a major fully owned franchise for the streamer.

AS The Hollywood Reporter reported last September, the budget for Citadel it ballooned north of $200 million across filming rounds after half of the show’s creative team departed due to creative differences. The series is currently on track to become the second most expensive show ever made, trailing only The rings of power.

Among the changes, Citadel he parted ways with the showrunner Josh Appelbaum and director Brian Kirk and the Russos hired David Weillthe creator of the drama recently ended by Amazon hunters, to take over the show and provide a more grounded vision and oversee $75 million in reshoots on a budget that was already earmarked at $160 million.

Sources say Weil will remain as showrunner for season 2, with the Russos expected to direct more episodes.
