It’s been a year since the infamous Oscar slap, in which actor Will Smith went on stage during the show and slapped the show host, Chris Rock, for a prank he pulled at the expense of Smith’s wife. The show went on, super embarrassingly, and Smith even went on later in the night to win Best Actor for his portrayal of him in King Richardbut even his prize was eclipsed by the onslaught.
Smith has been down over the past year, but is looking to get back to work and back into the public good graces.
In a recent report from Variety, sources say Smith is trying to re-establish his commercial appeal and is set to shoot the Sony movie. The bad boys 4and Netflix Fast and loose back to back. His last two films, King Richard AND Emancipation they were dramas with more of a season’s awards goal, and Smith has historically delivered hits and comedies that have kept him relevant at the box office and appealing to fans.
Last year, studio execs were reluctant to get back in business with Smith despite him being one of the biggest stars in the business, so this move could help him win back the studio job.
Both of these movies have been in the works for a long time, so it’s nice to know they’re finally moving forward. Both seem to be very funny. What do you think of the evolution of Will Smith’s career?
