Teaser Trailer for the second season of the HBO comedy series SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE

Someone somewhere debuted on HBO last year and captured the hearts of audiences in its seven short episodes. He made my list of best shows of 2022 and was my favorite of the bunch as well. The series, created by Hanna Boss AND Paolo Thurenstar comedian Bridget Everett as Sam, a middle-aged woman who returns to her family home in Kansas following the death of her sister and her mother’s impending rehabilitation. She is joined by Jeff Hillerwho plays his best friend Joel, Maria Caterina Garrison as Sam’s perfect sister, Tricia, Mike Hagerty as Sam’s father and stoic Kansas farmer Ed, Jane Brodi like his mother Mary Jo, e Murray Hill as new friend Fred Rococo, an undergraduate soil scientist/master of ceremonies.

The first season was a story of hope, humor and love, and while the next one is sure to deliver the same, it has had a huge twist in its path. In May 2022, not long before production began, Mike Hagerty, who played Sam’s affable father, died of an adverse reaction to antibiotics. An improv veteran also known for Friends AND The George Carlin Show, Hagerty initially had a large presence in season two.

But Sam has lost a beloved relative at the beginning of Someone somewhere, and subjecting her to another death didn’t seem right to Bos and Thureen. Instead, they decided to keep Sam’s father alive offscreen, sending him to visit her brother while Sam’s mother reluctantly checks into a rehab facility to deal with her drinking problem.

Everett says of Hagerty’s death:

“It was a real punch in the stomach for all of us. She brought so much heart to the show, so [we were] having to figure all those things out at the last minute while grieving her loss. We’ve decided to honor him throughout the show, just in small ways. We changed some things. There’s so much more of Tricia, the sister, that I think is so amazing this season.”

Some of the themes that will be explored in the new season include the decline of a parent, hopeless gay romantic love, a divorcee rebuilding her life, a seemingly loner who finds community, and two best friends who suffer explosive diarrhea after ate strange appetizers. at a recital. What more could you ask for, really?
