It looks like Amazon Studios is trying to revive MGM’s classic horror franchise Poltergeist. This will be the second attempt to revive the property after the Gil Kenanremake directed in 2015. Although the remake has a great cast led by Sam Rockwell, it was not a very good film and did not do very well at the box office.

On a recent episode of The Hot Mic co-hosted by John Rocha, entertainment columnist Jeff Sneider revealed the update and said this is one of many MGM properties Amazon is trying to “prioritize.”
When it comes to Poltergeist, however, it is explained that the situation is “complicated by the fact that Spielberg should probably be involved.” Steven Spielberg he was a producer on the original film. I don’t know why Spielberg would be involved because he wasn’t really involved in the remake. The remake was based on his script for the original film, but he was not a producer. Maybe he needs to sign.
Snieder went on to say, “All this stuff is so up in the air. [Amazon is] I’m still figuring out, ‘What do we have here at MGM, what do we want to do with it and how do we want to do it?’”
With how well horror movies are doing right now, it makes sense that Amazon would want to tap into that with a franchise like Poltergeist. But it really doesn’t make sense if it’s not going to be better than the original, what a great terrifying movie!
