A few days ago we learned that Middle-earth is expanding beyond the spin-off series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Warner Bros. will release new films in the franchise and, although no kind of detail is known that could give a rough idea of what we will see in the next installments, owns the rights to the books “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.

Despite this recent news, we must not forget it Amazon Studios, a studio outside of Warner Bros., has released its own series based on Middle-earth with plans to run for several seasons and multiple years. It is logical to ask how they will be combined and how it can affect, for better or for worse for each company, the fact that two different studios launch “Lord of the Rings” projects at the same time. As revealed in an interview with Variety, Jennifer Salke, CEO of Amazon Studios, does not believe that the release of Warner Bros. productions will negatively affect her series: “We love our original series. We are extremely proud of it and have invested in it for the long term. We strongly believe that there’s enough fan love to fuel ours [proyecto] for a long time”.
Between the Amazon Studios series and what Warner Bros. releases, there will be a time where we have more Middle-earth content than ever before. That’s why the American media too asked Salke about a possible market saturation of projects based on the work of JRR Tolkien. “We will see”replies, the Amazon Studios CEO doesn’t have a clear answer as to how many ‘Lord of the Rings’ projects will be too many for audiences.
Warner Bros. does it all
In the same way that Salke says his series has had a rope for a while, that they’ve invested “long term”Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the co-director of Warner Bros., explained at their studio’s investor meeting that the public has little knowledge of Middle-earth, giving rise to imagine a future in which we see most of it part on the screen, it corners this saga: “Despite all the possibilities and details lovingly introduced in the two trilogies, The vast, complex and dazzling universe created by JRR Tolkien remains largely unexplored.”
