‘Many Problems’ Reported in ‘Spiderman: Across the Spider-verse’ Development – Sony (Courtesy)
After seeing the live-action Spider-Verse in ‘No Way Home’, Sony Pictures is once again preparing one of the big arachnid movies for this year. However, things didn’t go entirely smoothly during the development of ‘Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse’, as new reports ensure that the film had “a lot of production problems2.
According to Matthew Belloni, during his podcast (via The Direct), he notes that “Spiderman: Through the Spider-Verse’ I had “numerous problems” during production. The presenter says that, unlike the first part, the work of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the screenwriters of the film, had to work on the fly, while the development continued.
“Well, it cost a lot more than the first one [Into the Spider-Verse] because they’ve had a lot of issues on that, and they’ve thrown a lot of stuff out and come back, it’s Lord & Miller and they’re writing as they go,” Belloni says. Furthermore, he states that, due to the problems, they had to rework several scenes from ‘Spiderman: Through the Spider-Verse’.
“Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse” cost $90 million and for the sequel, Sony reportedly set aside at least $100 million for “Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse”, although this figure has not been confirmed. Problems in development seem to confirm the two delays in the release of the film, which was originally scheduled for an April 2022 release.

The problems in the production of Spider-Verse 2
presumably, the changes in the development of Spider-Verse 2 ensure that it was the work of the authors, that they were making texture changes on the fly. This caused a dramatic increase in the budget, which was reflected in the delay in the release date. While this hasn’t been confirmed by Sony, the evidence seems conclusive.
Furthermore, a recent rumor assures that Disney and Sony will once again reach an agreement to add the participation of Tom Holland to “Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse”, but with his own live-action version. This, coupled with possible cameos from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, would have made development much more complicated than in the first part.
It is worth mentioning that the latter has not been confirmed. But it would not be surprising that ‘Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse’ had problems during its development, because like any other production, things change as time goes by. Spider-Verse 2 will be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.
