HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN Director Shares New Details, Says Film Will ‘Really Honor’ Original Comics

We have a new Hell boy movie on the way and is another attempt to reboot the franchise. The film is titled Hellboy: The crooked man AND Brian Taylor (Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Player) is set to direct the film.

The story is based on the comic of the same name, and in that story, written by the creator Mike Mignola with late art Richard CorbenHellboy teams up with a rookie BPRD agent named Tom Ferrell, and they find themselves stranded in rural 1950s Appalachia. “There they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with an eerie connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.” The story “will expand the world of Hellboy through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series.”

The screenplay of the film was written by Mignola and novelist Golden Christopher, and in a recent interview with Collider, the director opened up about the film and how he’s trying to “really honor” the original comics. He said:

“We started with a draft from Mike and Chris. Funny enough, a lot of what I’m doing is trying to get it even closer to the original comic than they did… A comic will never translate directly to the screen, but I’ll tell you my intent in the film is really to honor and bring the original comics to life.”

But there will be some changes from the comic. In the original story Hellboy is protecting a man named Tom Ferrell from a deal he made with demonic miser Jeremiah Watkins, who goes by the name The Crooked Man. In an attempt to save Tom’s soul, Hellboy teams up with a witch named Cora. But we learned that Cora won’t be in the film and she will be replaced by a new character Mignola created for the film. Talory noted:

“Besides HB himself is Tom Ferrell, who fans of the comic will know, and there’s also a new character Mike has created for the film version that will be a surprise.”

Taylor also confirmed that he’s looking into making an R-Rated version of the film. He said:

“We definitely discussed, you know, there’s really no need for anyone to do something for R for R’s sake. To say it has to be R, so we have to add A, B, and C. But this material, this source material is dark, scary. , violent and adult. So to really accept that, we don’t want to have handcuffs.

Hellboy: The crooked man shooting will begin in Bulgaria later this year. It currently does not have a release date.
