Although it seems like yesterday when we met Otis and his crew, the reality is that it has been four years since the premiere of ‘Sex Education’. Now, as time and seasons go by, many of the original characters leave the series at the end of his next delivery, and Maeve is one of them.

Emma Mackey, the actress who embodies her, confirmed his departure when asked about its continuity by RadioTimes: “Season 5? I just finished season 4 last week! […] I don’t think it’s in season 5, I said goodbye to Maeve”says the young interpreter.
Before announcing his departure, Mackey already suspected a decent departure from the series. According to reports from Deadline, the actress would not have such an important role in the episode which does not yet have a release date. In this way, Mackey joins a drop-off list that never stops growing.

The other big loss for ‘Sex Education’ is that of Ncuti Gatwa (Eric). Otis’ best friend also ends his career on the series after the fourth grade. After signing on to play Doctor Who, Gatwa was busy with the fourth season of the juvenile hit, however, the performer’s multi-employment ended with his departure from the series: “Last day, last time. Goodbye, thank you for everything you taught me and for all the strength”writes one of the members of the flagship trio on his Instagram profile.

Since Eric’s departure it should be noted that he has done his homework. The BAFTA Awards red carpet sheds a lot of light on what’s to come in British productions and ‘Sex Education’ is no exception. Jodie Turner-Smith reveals in her walk that Gatwa personally invited her in the cast of the series: “You may or may not see me in a little Netflix show called ‘Sex Education'”reveals Smith and adds: “First of all, all the scenes were with Ncuti Gatwa who, I die for him and he’s my favorite character. […] So when he called me and asked me to do it, I said, I don’t care how much they pay, I’m leaving.”the actress comments on her incorporation into Netflix’s most famous institution.
This new wave of releases wasn’t the only one that rocked the Netflix Original. Already in the summer of 2022 we knew the news that Simone Ashley, (leader in ‘The Bridgertons’) Patricia Allison (who played Ola, the half-girlfriend stepsister of Otis), Rakhee Thakrar (the teacher) and Tanya Reynolds (Lily , the ‘lover of aliens in fiction) would not be in the fourth season.
All of these outings predict a possible friendless (and client) Otis. fifth season, which has yet to be confirmed.
Mackey’s BAFTAs
The British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) were held last night and ‘Sex Education’ had its place at the gala. Two Moordale High School students were nominated in the Best Rising Stars category. Aimee Lou Wood, who plays Mary Stuart in the drama, shared a nomination with Mackey, who ultimately wins this “Rising Star”: “I am very proud to have been nominated together with you, it is a great honour”Mackey dedicates to Wood, tearfully from the Royal Festival Hall stage.
