The premiere and subsequent chapters of “The Last of Us” were a hit on all levels for HBO. Even since “Breaking Bad” or “Game of Thrones”, something like this hasn’t been seen on the platform. But even when its numbers are enviable, it wasn’t enough to surpass that of other Netflix series most loved by subscribers to its service.

According to a new report from Nielsen (via Variety), “The Last of Us’ of HBO did not pass ‘John Georgia’ Netflix. And is that although the series of Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman has reported a good number of viewers, it was not enough to reach 1.8 billion minutes watched, although this comedy-drama already has all its episodes available on the platform.

Even when it was a hit on HBO, ‘The Last of Us’ it wasn’t enough to surpass the Netflix series, since it only has 837 million viewed minutes, counting only its first two episodes. Meanwhile, “Ginny and Georgia” remains at the top of the list for the third consecutive week, a milestone for all titles available on its platform.

The analysis only takes into account streaming numbers, that’s whyThe Last of Us’ It is the sixth most successful series on the list, since it is also broadcast on the HBO channel of traditional television. Other titles under review include ‘That 90’s Show’ in second place with 1.6 million minutes watched, ‘The Walking Dead and its final season with 1.1 million in third place, and ‘Vikings: Valhalla’ 2 with 975 million of minutes watched in fourth place.

The success of “The Last of Us” on HBO

Since ‘The Last of Us’ premiered on HBO, the series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey has done nothing but increase its viewership with each new chapter. It was worth it for the company to confirm the second season, after the premiere of only two episodes, which means that it has managed to convince HBO in terms of reception and viewership.

Currently ‘The Last of Us’ is in the middle of its first season, waiting for the premiere of the sixth episode, since the fifth had to be brought forward so as not to cross audience schedules with Super Bowl LVII. There are 4 chapters ahead, which will be pivotal to Joel and Ellie’s story.

It will be seen where ‘The Last of Us’ will be placed at the end of its first season, but it will almost certainly move up a few places, but it is unlikely that it will reach the top of the list, which are clearly overrun by Netflix productions. But only time will tell who will be victorious.
